“Not tonight, darling ...” Headaches are often subject to ridicule, but anyone who suffers from chronic migraines know that an attack is a real ordeal. And medicine has a lack of adequate solutions to relieve the disorder, which is said to affect 240 million people worldwide.
This is why a non-invasive, non-medicinal treatment invented by NeuroTek Medical is arousing great interest. Named Tones, it is a band worn around the head. On the section located at the back of the head are electrodes that look like small loops of fabric, which send electric impulses to the greater occipital nerve. The patient has a remote control to adjust the intensity.
To develop Tones, which is still at the prototype stage, the engineers from NeuroTek used the principle of neurostimulation: electricity modifies the pain messages that are sent to the brain. This kind of treatment opens up multiple possibilities for relieving other kinds of pain autonomously.
